Last week, a remarkable windfall of Finnish yarn, a gift from Steve and Pirjo, relatives of Masey (Loose Ends Co-Founder) found its way to Swanson’s. If you don’t already know Swanson’s, they’re a wonder: a true “no-kill shelter for your fiber stash.” The yarn will be released gradually as space allows, STARTING RIGHT THIS MOMENT, with inventory replenished as items fly off the shelves—and 50% of every sale will benefit Loose Ends.

A Gift for Tess

"My Mom Amy was the most loving and generous person. She had a real playful personality and lived to make others happy. She was my best friend and was always making me laugh. Mom was a super creative artist who enjoyed lots of different types of making, and she continued to learn and take classes up until becoming sick. She attended all of her grandchildren’s births and remained connected and close with all her grandchildren, even through their teenage years (and even as she was declining from Alzheimer’s). Everyone, including the staff at the nursing home, just adored my Mom and could see and feel her kindness. She accepted everyone just as they were.

Having this project finished was a special experience, and my Mother would have been thrilled." — Iris

Stitching Across Generations

“My grandma Mercedes started this blanket for my kids. She had knit a few other blankets while she was alive, but this is the first one that was for my family. She loved being a great-grandmother and was disappointed that she wasn’t able to complete this before she passed.” — Kaitlin

“I asked Kaitlin what her grandma’s favorite flower was...a gardenia. So...I was not sure I could pull it off, but I did find a pattern for crocheting a gardenia! With purple and blue, I crocheted two gardenias to mark the place where “Mitzi” (Mercedes) stopped, and I began.

We thank this group for connecting us and allowing this family treasure to become one they can enjoy.” — Julie, Loose Ends finisher

Julie spent about 75 hours crocheting this blanket.

My friend said he thinks quilts are better than duvets. I told him he should be careful about making blanket statements like that.

In related news, we need 3 more volunteers for our table: We will have a table at Vogue Knitting Live, Jan 29-Feb 1, and we are looking for 4 volunteers to take a shift at our table. Volunteers will get free passes to the marketplace and also have a crackin’ fun day with the other nonprofits, cavorting with some amazing folks over in our special corner.
