Find out if your project qualifies.

PLEASE NEVER SEND PROJECTS DIRECTLY TO LOOSE ENDS.

In order to qualify to have your project finished by a Loose Ends volunteer, the following criteria must be met:

  1. The originator of the project must be deceased, or no longer able to finish the project due to illness or disability.

  2. The project must be partially begun.

  3. The project and its materials must be free of moths and moth eggs. We are unable to accept rotting or moldy materials.

  4. The project must be clean, and not smell of mothballs or mold. If the original crafter was a smoker, we will do our best to match their project with a finisher who is OK with the smell.

  5. The project owner must want the project back to keep.

A note about quilts & doilies:

Loose Ends will try to match finishers to all types of fiber-arts handwork projects, but quilts and large doily projects come with some limits.

Quilt projects we always accept:

  • Piecing quilt tops

  • Quilt binding

  • Smaller hand and machine quilting projects (such as baby quilts and wall hangings)

Do you have a quilt that requires batting and backing, significant hand quilting or a longarm?

At this time we can usually accommodate most quilting projects.

We will make every effort to find a finisher capable of both backing and quilting, but larger projects—especially those requiring hand quilting—can be particularly challenging to match. If a quilt requires a significant amount of work, and we cannot find a finisher for you, we may suggest hand-quilting or longarm professionals who do this type of work.

Large Doily Projects (bedspreads & tablecloths)

We are unable to complete large doily projects unless a substantial portion of the work has already been finished. However, if you have a small section of doily handwork, our finishers can transform it into a more manageably sized keepsake, (such as a table runner or pillow).

Important Notes:

  • Because Loose Ends finishers are volunteers, and handmade items take time, it may take a while to receive your completed project back.

  • Our staff will check in with volunteers periodically for updates and pass the updates along to you.

  • In the event that a volunteer is unable to finish a project, we will do our best to transfer the project to a new volunteer who has the time and skill to finish the job.

  • One more thing: we do our best to match your project to a willing and skilled volunteer, but there is a chance your finished piece will have imperfections. We ask that you only submit a project if you are comfortable with this possibility.
